The Ed Spec process begins...
Last week we shared a little bit of the preparation work that has been happening so that we could hit the ground running.  We introduced you to Doug, Dave and Phil who will be our Project Management team, and we mentioned that the first step would be meetings with groups from Glacier, Elk Ridge and Wilkeson.  The first of these started yesterday and will continue today and Wednesday.
The purpose of these meetings are the development of educational specifications. Educational specifications are a set of concisely written, organized objectives that describe the educational facility needs of students, educators, and the community. They include descriptions of the educational and support service programs. They collectively outline what these groups want to achieve for educators, students, parents and the community. The final educational specification document serves as a written communication between educators and the design professionals.
For an exemplary school to meet the needs of the community, the educational program requirements should 'drive' the architectural design. The planning process is best done when the educational specifications and the architectural program are developed together. Therefore our educational specification team includes both educators and design professionals. This is an exciting time!
